International Women's Day: Profiled, Charlotte O'Sullivan
We loved having you shoot our newest 2020 campaign! To create such stunning images what are the steps to making an image come alive?
View our favourite shades from the shoot here!
Charlotte: I like to think of it as past, present and future. Before the shoot, I try to think about what I am looking for and visioning. Then as I take the shots I already have an idea of how I’ll edit it, if I’ll crop it in tight or strip it straight back to black and white.

The 2020 Raie Eyewear campaign is inspired by 90’s nostalgia with plans to grab your best friend and escape to the sun. How do you portray this muse in your connection with the models and the camera?
Charlotte: I always think it comes back to music. Throughout the shoot, Morgan shuffled a mix of Talking Heads, Velvet Underground and New Order. To get the girls to move with the music and let themselves be as outrageous as possible is always the goal. Elsa and Morgan performed accordingly, I loved it.

You directed and created so many looks for the shoot. What was your favourite style to shoot?
Charlotte: The Evie Pink!!! Elsa’s whole look was styled as she stepped straight out of the 1960s. The all-black mini dress, hair effortlessly blow-dried, polka dot stockings and the sweetest pink sunglasses.

What are your essentials in your bag on a day on set?
Charlotte: The obvious camera, lens, SD cards and spare batteries, of course. As locations are always changing indoor and out I like to have on hand a good pair of sunglasses, sunscreen, water bottle, keep cup and a jar of mixed nuts to keep my brain functioning. My favourites are walnuts, cashews and brazil nuts.
The 2020 Bambi and Evie campaign allow girls to see that Raie Eyewear is made for the girl who loves a cool accessory to add to any outfit. Who comes to mind to you as a style muse?
Charlotte: Alexa Chung.
Your digital photos truly captured the sunglasses in their best angle. Why do you love to shoot with a digital camera?
Charlotte: Flexibility. A bit more space to make mistakes, to play and thrive with an abundance of choice.
Being a Gold Coast photographer, What are your three favourite creative Gold Coast brands?
Charlotte: Lack of Colour, YCL Jewels and Peony Swimwear.
Tips for anyone out there who wants to get into photography?
Charlotte: Take the photo; any photo on any camera. Photography comes without an agenda, so capture the moments that are worth holding on to. Then listen to what inspires you and keep on taking the photo.
