Everyone meet Jessie from the Caalm. Based in Sydney Jessie is everyone's new best friend. Educated in Chinese medicine Jessie brings the important art of relaxation and healing to everyone. With a long list of massage and naturopathic treaments to and insanely good gift shop The Calm is your one stop shop to getting out of a rut and becoming present within yourself.
How important is the method of ‘movement’ in your daily practices?
I perceive movement much the same as I perceive nutrition. Just like a wholefoods based diet will keep you feeling your best, a dynamic movement diet will do the same. Our muscles and joints need to move through their entire range on a regular basis to avoid ‘movement deficiencies’ and therefore movement is at the top of my list when it comes to my daily practices.
Jessie wears our Lakota Black sunglasses.
With such importance on sustainable brands at this point in time, how important do you think implementing sustainable practices in your daily life can be?
Sustainability is the way forward and should be a priority for us all when making daily choices at home or at work. It’s the small things that do make a difference; opting for plastic free where possible or refillable products as well as organic foods and self care products. There is a huge focus on external sustainability but my passion lies in self sustainability and how you can create a stronger and more resilient ‘self’. To implement self sustainability practices into your daily routine, is to improve your mental fitness, put yourself first, say no and do what is best for you. Be sustainable inside and out.
What are your favourite Raie sunglasses and how would you style them for :
LAKOTA all day every day.
- A morning walk with friends - nike leggings back with a white bassike long sleeve t, layered with a natural coloured sweat. Topping it off with a pair of new balance yellow runners and my hair pulled back in a bun.
- A wholesome lunch date - relaxed wide leg suit pants paired back with a crisp poplin cotton white shirt. A pair of runners or converse to keep me comfortable and feeling grounded.
One of our core values at Raie is the importance of ‘sun safety’ and teaching our customers to focus on the ‘why’ behind our business. What is the main ‘why’ behind The CALMM?
Self sustainability is at the core of The CALMM. It is increasingly becoming the norm to participate in a speed driven life where we work long hours and sit in our yang energy. The CALMM is a space to strengthen our yin energy, find a pause in our day and allow what was to melt away. The ‘why’ behind The CALMM, our purpose, is to share and educate our community in how they can train their body’s and minds to down-regulate and find CALMM in their daily lives, in and out of the treatment room.
What is your morning routine?
The morning is my favourite time of day; the world is slow and quiet. I love feeling the warmth of the morning sunshine of my skin and a hot cup of coffee in my hands.
I start my day with a 5 minute face massage routine to drain away any puffiness and brighten my complexion before applying my favourite face oil by Foile.
To compliment the experience, I often burn Palo Santo and apply some essential oil to my pulse points.
What mindful practices do you implement in your daily life and how is this followed through the Calm?
I use the power of breath to ground me when I’m in my head. Slowly breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth, taking a pause at the end of each inhale and exhale.
This sequence can be used during treatment as a subtle reminder for clients to breathe. When they hear my breath, they naturally mimic the rhythm and drop into the table.
What is one thing you learnt during Covid?
2020 was a year I will never forget. A year where I was given the space to sit with myself and time to think with freedom. I learnt to trust in the process, the energy we put in to life is the energy we will get in return; a karmic exchange.
What are your go-to styling tips when purchasing clothing and accessories? Do you prefer to buy higher quality products with a higher price point less ‘OR’ do you prefer to purchase seasonally with clothes to have more variety and choice when styling your wardrobe?
I like to invest in premium pieces that transcend through the seasonal changes. Layering in the winter time and striping it back in the warmer months. I gravitate towards natural fibres, neutral tones and androgynous styles. On the accessory side of things, I love natural stones and asymmetric shapes, holly ryan being my go to.
What does a perfect day look like to you?
Sunshine, sunshine, sunshine! A perfect day in my world is time in the sun, whether at the beach, on a boat, in my garden or at a cafe. Any time in the sun is heaven for me. It warms me, gives me energy, lifts me up and fills my soul. Of course I would accompany my sunshine time with groovy tunes, and a few dance moves.
It was a pleasure answering the above, great questions
